Election Day

We got to the polling site at 6:07am. One hour and ten minutes later we were getting back in the car. We were roughly the 325/330th voter, and there are less than 3,000 registered voters in our precinct. Turnout is going to be amazing today. It’s pretty thrilling to watch. Many of my friends and co-workers who I’ve heard from already this morning also were standing in lines for an hour, hour and a half, before coming to work.

Obama had no less than 5 volunteers at the polling site checking off voters and helping individuals having problems – wrong polling location, etc. We’re in a pretty safe Democratic precinct, which just speaks to the size of his ground operation here in Virginia.

Baby Alice slept through most of the waiting in line and voting, just like the little trooper she is. Bundled up in her car seat. Hopefully the first 8 years of her life will be living with an African American as president, and it will be normal to her. She’ll have no idea how unusual, how historic it was for him to get there. I think that’s the most exciting part of today, of this election. It makes me just that much more hopeful for her future – today our world is a little more tolerant than yesterday.
